ASEF Gala in Cleveland

Register on-line for the American Slovenian Education Foundation Gala in Cleveland at

The AMLA has been working with the American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) with the goal to offer expanded scholarship opportunities to AMLA Members. Currently, the ASEF offers fellowship opportunities to graduate level students at some of the most prestigious universities in the United States: Stanford University, University of California-Berkley, Harvard University, just to name a few.

Like the AMLA, the ASEF is looking to foster creativity and innovation within Slovenians and those of us who are of Slovenian descent. Working with the ASEF will bring students of the AMLA closer to these opportunities. Likewise, there will be opportunities to study in Slovenia.

This year, the ASEF will have its annual fundraising ASEF Gala in Cleveland, Ohio. The AMLA is hosting this event at the Slovenian National Home on St. Clair Avenue on March 25. The cost is $75 and includes a wine reception, dinner, an awards presentation, an ASEF presentation, and a musical performance by the Slovenian American men’s choral group, Mi Smo Mi.

Prof. Edi Gobetz to be honored.

You may have already read about the seminal work by Prof. Gobetz which is a book enumerating the accomplishments of innovators and inventors of Slovenian heritage. At the ASEF Gala, you’ll join the ASEF in honoring Prof. Gobetz’s accomplishments, including the publication of numerous books on Slovenian history, Slovenian American accomplishments, and more. Prof. Gobetz, through his latest publication: Slovenian American Inventors and Innovators has given the Slovenian American Community another proof of the accomplishments of those who share this heritage. Prof. Gobetz, his wife Milena, are members of AMLA Lodge 8.

Lausche Scholarship Recipient to Perform

The AMLA is proud of all who receive a scholarship from the AMLA. The ASEF Gala will provide a unique opportunity to see a recipient in action. AMLA Member from Lodge 4, Richard Celestina is one of the founding members of the Slovenian American men’s choral group Mi Smo Mi which will be performing that evening. Richard received the 2016 AMLA Scholarship which is the namesake of former AMLA Member, and US Senator, Frank Lausche. This scholarship is funded through the generosity of the Frances and Jane S. Lausche Fund.
